WHAT HAPPENED?
X user @bfclewis2 tagged Maupay in a post that said: "if @nealmaupay_ replies i’ll get a tattoo of his choice". The 27-year-old replied telling him to get a line from the famous clip produced by AFTV regular Ty, who called the striker out for an incident in a match against Arsenal, saying: "Maupay you're a cheat, I hope Brighton get relegated."
Lewis stuck to his word and posted a picture of the finished art on his arm, which included a Brentford shirt and the words.

THE BIGGER PICTURE
In a world where most elite players are media trained to ensure they do not say anything out of line, it is nice to see Maupay engage with fans on a personal level. The controversial forward has been involved in plenty of incidents across the season – most notably his exchange with James Maddison after mocking the Tottenham man's celebration when he scored against them – but his character and representation across social media is refreshing.

WHAT NEXT FOR MAUPAY?
Maupay's spell on loan at Brentford has come to an end and he will head back to Everton ahead of the 2024-25 campaign. His contract runs until next summer with the option of a further year, so he will have the chance to either impress with the Toffees and Sean Dyche or perhaps find another loan in the Premier League.
